The Discrepancy between Consensual-Level Culture and Individual-Level Culture

Realo (2003) raises the interesting point that the opinions about a culture by culture `experts' may or may not correspond to the beliefs about that same culture held by people of that culture. In this commentary I argue that the discrepancy between consensual- and individual-level cultures is itself an important aspect of culture that has heretofore not received the recognition it deserves.
